Meet Remie Patalita Jr., a persistent young lad from Barangay Bukangliwayway, Kibawe, Bukidnon. He recently earned a promotion as a Line Quality Control at the Hanjin Heavy Industries (HHI) and Construction Co. Ltd. Philippines in Subic, Zambales. Motivated by his dreams and the need to support his mother under medication and his younger brother still studying, Mr. Patalita strived hard to thrive. Patalita was one of the thirty (30) participants who completed Plumbing NC II, a technical course supported by the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). For twenty (20) days, Patalita and other SLP participants went through vigorous and hands on training on plumbing to prepare them for possible employment. Months after he completed the technical course, Patalita submitted himself to a free Pipe Fitting NC II offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). He then worked as a trainee at the Cagayan de Oro City Water District Office for a month, to gain experience. Given his credentials, he received an opportunity to work as Pipe Fitter at one of the largest construction industries in the Philippines. SLP supported Patalita, through SLP’s Pre-employment Assistance Fund (PEAF), for his completion of his documentary requirements to take the job. Since his employment, he was able to send about PhP 50,000.00 to his family. Written by: Ms. Jamila M. Taha, DSWD Northern Mindanao
